Kyroh Pre-Release

Today, I'm excited to share the pre-release of Kyroh (my latest typeface) with Secret Club members.

Secret Club members get all SimpleBits® fonts including pre-releases plus additional perks.

Kyroh is an all-caps, sans-serif display font inspired by a vintage luggage label from the National Hotel in Cairo, Egypt (found in the amazing book from Letterform Archive—which is highly recommended for amazing retro type and lettering examples).

I riffed off the hand-lettered word “EGYPT” from the label and filled out the rest of the alphabet informed by those five letterforms.

I love how wide and chunky the word was lettered, and the simplified G and lowercase-ish Y had me thinking of how the rest of the alphabet might play off of those imperfect, inky, rounded-but-rough shapes.

Kyroh comes in three weights: Regular, Medium, and Bold and has our standard extended language support with diacritics and additional glyphs. Plus! A few Egyptian icons based on some of the common hieroglyphics. I've always been fascinated by ancient Egypt going back to when I was a kid. I mean...the OG of iconographers, right?

Secret Club members can download the font (for free!) below and use however they'd like. If there's something amiss, be sure to holler and let me know so I can button it all up for an official release very soon.
