Clauthbound Pre-Release

Today, I'm very excited to finally share the pre-release of Clauthbound (our latest typeface) with Secret Club members.

Clauthbound is a gently-stressed display sans in all-caps. I was inspired by dusty old mid-twentieth-century book covers that are foil-stamped on cloth covers. A lot of old books that have dust covers are often clothbound and foil-stamped underneath. Clauthbound is an ode to that aesthetic, with subtle curving. Stressed sans typefaces emerged before geometric sans, borrowing from calligraphy and brushwork and I love the human quality they evoke.

Clauthbound comes in three weights. It's all-caps, but has pretty robust extended language support. And perhaps the best part is that the font comes loaded with over 40 random icons. I wanted to include simple glyphs that would feel right at home with the type on those old cloth book covers. Classic shapes and symbols that also gently-stressed like the letters and numbers. You could design an entire deck of playing cards using nothing but Clauthbound (and I just might do that!).

Secret Club members can download the fonts (free!) below and use however they'd like. If there's something amiss, be sure to let me know so we can button it all up for an official release in the near future.
