Studio Notes #71

Greetings, Warriors of the World. Here's issue #71 of Studio Notes™—quick bits delivered to you each Friday.

Today's visual meditation is a non-narrated, lamination and glassing of a Timpone surfboard in their Maui workshop. The craft is on full display here and everything is finessed by hand. Wish I knew how to surf. Also, here's your yearly reminder to watch my favorite 80s surf movie, North Shore.

Is this a positive sign that analog things still matter to folks? The Onion is once again available in print. On actual paper! Delivered to your door. This isn't an ad—just a hopeful observation about print and digital adjacently existing, perhaps.

This week I discovered the insanely detailed pen work of Taylor Mazer. It essentially stopped me in my tracks. Be sure to explore the site and his social channels to see some of his process and often miniature scale. So incredibly impressive and inspirational.

What are you working on?

I've been creating some new merch for the new year, and it's starting to trickle into the studio via our beloved UPS delivery driver. New wool caps! With an ampersand from Clauthbound Bold. They'll be added to the goods shop very soon along with a couple of other new things.

And speaking of goods, I think I'll talk about making merch in our monthly Secret Club meeting today at 1pm ET (details are in the SC Slack). I love researching swag, getting it made and perhaps that'd be interesting to like-minded folks such as yourselves. Trusted vendors, etc.
