Studio Notes #94

Hey there, Friends. Here are this week’s Studio Notes™—quick bits delivered to you each Friday.

📞

iPhone charging docks that look like old pay phone enclosures. Complete with optional graffiti, stickers, and urban wear by mural artist, Nicky Davis. I always dig a good mix of old and new technology for what I'll call, "functional nostalgia" (e.g. a flat-screen LED television in a 1960s mid century modern cabinet, cassette walkman that plays MP3s, etc.)

🌈

Seeing this Raised by Rainbows Muppets print by Matt Flowers sure did brighten my day. That's an entire childhood on a 16×20 poster. And thank you, as always, Jim Henson.

🍭

Mel and I saw Jack White last week in Boston and hoo boy was it a real, honest-to-goodness rock show. One of the best I've seen in quite a while. I felt like we were seeing a band in their prime, so dialed-in, that when they hit a power chord in unison, it just feels perfect. It's hard to describe.

I've always respected Jack, not only for his music, but for his entrepreneurial prolificness. A record pressing plant in Detroit? A hardware and merch store in Nashville? The guy is firing on all cylinders it seems. Go see him when he comes to your town and check out his latest two solo records. Rock is thriving in there.

🍷

Look, I know, I know, it's a really stupid idea. But it works, and I would like to have one. A wine glass designed to work upside down. There's a deep metaphor somewhere in here about the current state of the world or perhaps the glass is half full/empty bit turned on its head or the, "no, I don't have a problem, I'm defying physics and enjoying this impossible beverage" kind of vibe. Anyhow, stock up now for the holidays.

This Week’s Poll

Danmade This Week

I've been battling a summer cold this week, so my productivity has taken a hit. However, my week has been buoyed by...Jimothy. You know, the round little rascal of a raccoon in Seattle. I don't know why I love this little dude so much, but apparently his moment was much needed. And seeing all the art and joy around Jimothy has been a blessing in the midst of...well, everything else happening in the world.

So, for the love of the cosmos, please let us have this moment and protect Jimothy at all costs. He represents something of an antidote to critics or negativity or divisiveness. I hope. Heck, someone will find a way to complain about his rise to Champion of the Different. But let's be louder ;-)
