Studio Notes #78

Hello hello, and greetings to you, beloved reader. Here are this week’s Studio Notes™—quick bits delivered to you each Friday.

🎻

Charles Brooks takes beautiful photos from the inside of various musical instruments, revealing hidden architecture and insanely detailed miniature "rooms". The mood and lighting captured in these photos is just perfect.

As you're reading this, Artemis II is hurtling toward the moon—and even past it! Or depending on when you read this, perhaps it's still orbiting Earth. Anyway, I had heard the crew will be breaking the record for the longest distance from Earth by any human, which I thought was pretty incredible on its own for this mission. But it had me thinking, wouldn't it be roughly the same as the Apollo missions, since they also reached (and orbited) the moon? Turns out, Artemis II is taking a wide, "free-return" trajectory around the moon, adding 30,000–35,000 additional miles to the maximum distance traveled from Earth. Whereas the Apollos did tight orbits. Pretty neat.

I like to stay relatively minimalist when traveling and after researching and trying out a few “tiny” bags I think I've found a good match with the Civic Access Sling from Evergoods. You're not going to win any fashion points with this one. It's all about function and keeping stuff like sunglasses, phone chargers, and stuff close by but also in a bag that doesn't swing around when you're navigating an airplane aisle. Shift it around to the front and just sit down and still have everything right there in front of you. I also appreciate the little square velcro area for visibility patches (which is also cleverly their logo mark). Travel-tested and recommended for old people like me.

🍦

Mel brought home some of these Coffee Chip Gelato Cones from Gelato Boy and they are incredible. Why didn't anyone tell me that gelato is (slightly) healthier than ice cream? More milk, less cream I guess. Regardless of their health ranking, these things are addictive. Only beef we have is that the cones are a tad soggy. But still.

This Week’s Poll

From this list, which is your favorite (semi-realistic) space movie?

What are you working on?

A new Stardust Tee is in the shop! This one's a variation of a design we've had kicking around for quite a while. When life seems difficult, I always remind myself of the bigger picture. And you can't get much bigger than remembering that everything is made of stardust and stardust is everything. Heavy stuff, but it helps keep things in perspective. The type is set in our Cartridge font. Small eclipse icon on the front left, with full, 3-color art on the back.

💸
And hey, take 15% off any tee in the shop for the next week with code STARDUST.

These new tees were printed here in Salem, MA by our friends atLucky House MFG, who always do outstanding work.
