Studio Notes #100

Hello, Friends. Here are this week’s Studio Notes™—quick bits delivered to you each Friday. This week we’re celebrating the 100th issue of the newsletter! Thanks for your support and feedback—it's kept me going :-) Oh, and all Goods are on sale for 25% off (details below).

Meet the Woodlanders, a family of handmade, needle-felted, animal figures by artist, Holly Kirby. Taking wool yarn and stabbing it with barbed needles to create 3D characters is not something I knew about—but am glad I do now.

This Blueprint Desk Mat is pretty ingenious. It's one of those large, self-healing, cutting mats—but with the added bonus of a white, wet-erase pen to scribble notes and sketches on. Wipe away and start over again. Would probably make a good desk blotter under your keyboard.

👾

I have no idea what's going on in this game, nor do I have a PC to be able to find out, but wow there is something mesmerizing about the 8-bit pixel animation and code-like gameplay in Rangedrifter. The gamemaker calls it “...haunted, procedural paths toward the dormant center of a handmade world”. (Hat tip to Doug March)

🎸

I'm looking forward to watching this new film about the Fender Telecaster, which is celebrating its 75th year. I bought a Telecaster in probably 1995, and it's long been my favorite guitar sound. There's a piano-like, bell tone, quality that a tele does so well. And that's just one of its two, iconic pickups. It's such a legendary instrument.

This Week’s Poll

Last week I asked about your go-to method for keeping track of to-dos and “other app” won with pencil & paper in 2nd. Let me know what that other app is!

Danmade This Week

This week I shared the livestream recording with Secret Club™ members that we did last Friday. We took a look through some of the new features in Glyphs 4, and I also did an intro on interpolation for making multiple weight fonts from two masters.

In other news, both kids are now off to college and that's bringing all sorts of emotions and life-pondering reflection. Time is weird. It both flies and elongates. Sometimes in helpful ways, and sometimes in challenging ways. Hang on to moments!

Get Studio Notes™ delivered to you each Friday. Upgrade to my Secret Club™ and get all the SimpleBits® fonts + more perks.
